Damson & Wilde

Original post on 30th October 2023:

‘We’re thrilled to announce that Damson & Wilde is joining the Gusto Pronto family.

When offered the opportunity to add Damson & Wilde to our established hospitality group, we jumped at the chance. A little on Gusto Pronto if you don’t know us – we’re a fiercely independent, family-owned business with five pubs based in and around Suffolk and centred in Bury St Edmunds. We brew our own Brewshed beer and have a wine shop, Vino Gusto. Put simply, we’re passionate about great food, drinks and looking after our guests.

We’ve always loved the building at 59 Abbeygate Street. Originally built by John Corder for The Sun Alliance Assurance Company in 1891, it first became a hospitality venue when Café Rouge came into Bury St Edmunds in the 1990’s – one of the first chain restaurants to hit the town. If you’re familiar with The One Bull (our first pub in the historic heart of the town), you’ll know that it’s one of the oldest pubs in the town. 59 Abbeygate St is another iconic building, beautifully refurbished by City Pub Group last year with what we think is the best garden in Bury St Edmunds and we can’t wait to get underway.

So what can you expect from Damson & Wilde by Gusto? We’re taking the reins from mid-November and you will immediately see the Gusto hospitality you know and love. The current team will stay in place supported by our Gusto team. We want to take some time to get to know the business so the current menus will continue to the end of 2023, including the festive menus. Come January, we’ll launch new food menus. We’ll tweak the drinks offering over time (you may already be familiar with our Brewshed beer as it’s been stocked at Damson & Wilde from the start) and Vino Gusto will supply our wines.

All existing table reservations will be transferred over to us and we’ll honour Damson & Wilde/City Pub Group vouchers bought before the change in ownership. If you have a voucher, please forward it to info@gustoprontoltd.co.uk and we’ll arrange to exchange it for one of our vouchers for use at Damson & Wilde. Gusto Pronto pub vouchers can also be redeemed at Damson & Wilde.

We can’t wait to share this new chapter for 59 Abbeygate St with you and look forward to seeing you soon.’

‘We’re delighted to be handing over the reins to such experienced, passionate and highly thought of local operators in David and Roxane.

We have every confidence our fantastic team, not to mention our customers, will be very well looked after. No doubt the local knowledge and support Gusto Pronto bring to the table will see them and Damson & Wilde thrive in the months and years ahead.

We wish them all the very best of luck.’
